A Word From Our Founder
Howdy there! My name is Mark ‘Jay’ Jimenez. I’m a certified financial planner and the CEO and co-founder of Sensible Dollar.
I was raised by American immigrants living a poverty stricken life.
Life was hard. My parents worked at an electrical appliance assembly factory. Not unlike those with conveyor belts where you would sort items as they come through. It wasn’t the most pleasant environment, but it meant we had food on the table and a roof over our heads.
They also tirelessly worked a second job as cleaners for local businesses, schools, offices, you name it – vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, etc. I witnessed first hand the hardship they endured. They taught me the values of working hard.
Nothing comes to you for free. If you want something, you have to earn it.
This was instilled in me from a very young age, so I grew up fast. I studied hard in school and college, knowing very well my parents poured their blood, sweat, and tears to get me an education. They wanted me to have a better life at the expense of their daily grind and sacrifice. I needed to succeed. I needed to help them back.
In 2003, I graduated with a master’s degree in finance, and fulfilled my dream of becoming a financial planner.
Though I was left with $60k in college debt. I leaned on the lessons learned and knowledge acquired from my experiences, and it allowed me to budget, live frugally, properly manage my money, invest wisely, build up a strong credit rating, and grow my 401(k). My debts were gone in under 2 years.
It wasn’t easy. And for those living in hardship now, I can empathize. In fact, I would do anything to go back in time and help my parents get through life with less adversity.
This is the reason I started this website.
There are countless people living with various levels of financial stress. The majority of which neither have the experience nor the knowledge to fight through them.
Our mission is for this website to become that helping hand, that place of guidance I’m sure my parents would have appreciated back in the day. It is a collection of financial aspects and topics that have helped me develop lifelong skills and put me in a position of financial freedom.
It covers money issues that are currently underserved and rarely discussed on the Internet, but are commonly faced by everyday Americans.
If we can help you gain the confidence, will power and a sense of purpose to set your life towards financial wellbeing, then this website will have served its purpose too.
Let’s make change happen!
